There are only two ways to live your life. One is as though nothing is a miracle......
The other is as though everything is a miracle.

~Albert Einstein~

We bought the kids a new playhouse. It is actually called Town Centre because there is a house, gas station, restaurant, soccer net and basket ball hoop all attached to this house. The walls swing open to expand and the kids just loved it. They had a blast playing in it all day today. It was a beautiful spring day and only a little bit of snow left after our blizzard last weekend. What a difference in one week.....only Alberta!!!

Too Cool for words!!!

Maya loves to pose for the camera...what a diva!!!

It has been snowing for 3 days........this is unbelievable. We have more snow now then we had during the winter. It finally stopped about 2 hours ago. Maya is totally disgusted with the snow and has commanded me to go outside and make the snow go away!! I wish it was that simple. The pictures below were taken on april 22, 2008.......it's supposed to be spring. Last week we were in sandals and capris and this week, well look for yourself!! I have seen it snow many times in Alberta in April and even in May, but I have not seen it last this long. The weather is expected to stay cold for at least another 2-3 days. We have been shovelling for 3 days now.....only in Alberta!!!!!!!!!!!

This is a great video of a woman who talks about reckless faith and the needs of millions of orphans around the world. It's a little long, but it is so good!!! Take the time to watch it and share it....it will inspire you.

SWEET DENAYE

This morning Denaye said mommy come here......I bent down and she whispered in my hear "Guess what.....I love you" What a precious moment....it meant so much more then just I love you. Denaye is the sweetest little girl with a beautiful smile. She has her dad wrapped around her little finger. What a blessing these girls are to all of us.

Easter morning.....ripping into the candy!!!!

Candy for breakfast!!!

Meeting new cousins for the first time.

My mom, with her brother Ed and his wife Grace and our cousin Verna. The girls are always excited to meet new people and we had a nice visit with all of them.

HAPPY EASTER

Today is Easter.....a time to celebrate our risen saviour, Jesus. Today is also a first for our girls, our first Easter together. Last Easter we had just received our referral for them. It was such an exciting time, it was the first time we ever saw their faces. I have been trying to explain to them why we celebrate Easter and it gets a little confusing for them, but Maya is catching on a little bit. I had to chuckle though because after they received their easter goodies, Maya looked at me and asked if Jesus came by and gave them the chocolate. This is all so knew for them and like every other 'first' that happens in their life is simple a joy to watch unfold. We give thanks today for all things, but especially that Jesus has risen and is alive and preparing a place for us in heaven. We wish you all a blessed Easter and may it be one that you truely discover why we celebrate this special day!!!
God's Blessings on you all

MY GIRLS

Maya has been asking ever since I bought them new clothes to dress alike. Here is a cute picture of the girls in their new oufits. After I took the picture Maya wanted to see it......her response " I don't want to dress like Denaye...yuck" So I guess this won't be happening again!!! Have a wonderful day!!

Maya got a new outfit. The girls have been growing so much and it's hard to keep up...it literally feels like they grow an inch a week. Anyway Maya was so pleased with her new clothes she wanted me to take a picture and post it for everyone to see. Denaye got new clothes too.....I will post those when she is in the mood for the camera!!!

Today is 6 months since we stepped off that airplane with Denaye and Maya. We became a family of 8 on September 6, 2007. I can't believe how quickly time has gone. When we were waiting for the girls, time seemed to drag and now that they are here....it's business as usaul. We have all found a new normal with the addition of females into our home and the boys adore their sisters and the girls adore their brothers. They fight though....just today as we were leaving to take a friend home, Sam and Maya were fighting over who should sit where in the van. Life has become normal around here and I am so glad. When we first arrived we were dealing with the girls trying to figure out what just happened to their familiar life they used to know in Ethiopia. I think back to all of the changes that they have gone through and I am amazed and proud of their courage, their acceptance of us, their unconditional love, but most of all their trust. They have truely become part of our family and yes the road was a bit bumpy at first, but we can't imagine life without them anymore. Maya is so expressive and full of energy, she really needs to be in dance classes. Her favorite thing to do is do dance and sing to Hanna Montana and High School Musical. In the fall she will be starting ballet classes...she is so excited, but has no idea how long till the fall really is. I wish we could do it before, but we have a very busy summer. Denaye is slow to trust and more cautious, but her smile lights up a room. She loves simple things like a story or a walk or making cookies with grandma. We are blessed to have such wonderful children and I thank god for them everyday. Life is so much better now that I get to shop for girl stuff!!!!!!

The kids love to play hockey. Maya is determined that she is going to play on a hockey team. If that's what she really wants then that's fine, but I didn't go through all of this to finally get some girls in the house only to have them play hockey. I will try and convince her that figure skating is a much better sport......but seriously they love to play with Sam and Sam loves to teach them.

Not too much going on around our house.....just trying to cope with the cold snap we've been in. We did get a few days relief and then we got dumped on with more snow!!! Maya literally prays everynight to God to take the snow away and then she begs me to do something about it. I think it has more to do with the new bathingsuit she got from E-bay. This picture is for Auntie Renee!!!

I know it's been awhile since I posted anything, but I've been rather busy. I've been going through the girls closet and am horrified at the amount of clothing that these girls will not even be able to wear. They grew too much....to quick!!! So I've been busy putting all of my Gymboree stuff and other brands of clothing on E-Bay. I have so much...anyway that's my excuse.

Denaye has wanted to get extensions for so long. We finally did it on friday. A wonderful lady came to our house and did it for her. She also put Maya's back in. Denaye is so excited to have long hair and I think it makes her look even cuter.

I decided to not go private....just for your info!!

Kyle got braces today. He's been waiting for a very long time to get them. He is in some pain today, but hopefully tommorrow he will feel better. In about 2 years Kyle will have a 7000.00 dollar smile........ain't it great

Jolanda and her son came for a visit on the weekend. She is very special to me...like a daughter. We are good friends with her parents and we used to live in the same city once upon a time. Many miles separate us now, but when we see them it's like nothing has changed. There aren't too many friends around like that. Jolanda is a married woman now with 2 young children of her own.....makes me realize how much time has gone by. It was great to see her again.

Hello friends and family,

...you are willing to be seen like this. This is the work of the very talented Maya Kurtz.

Rod put together a video of our christmas celebrations. The file was to big to upload so I put a link if you would like to view it. The quality is not the best, but you get the idea anyway.

BOXING DAY

Boxing Day my brother Donnie and Shauna and the kids arrived. We had a turkey dinner with them and opened gifts. We had a wonderful time with them. They were able to stay and spend New Year's with us. Our kids always enjoy spending time with their cousins. Jody and her family joined us for New Year's as well. We spent the evening eating chinese food and playing games. Maya also had her first sleepover at Auntie Jody's house on New Year's eve. Maya loved it, but Denaye did not........Kyle came to the rescue and slept with Denaye all night. Denaye was not upset that Maya went, she was upset that she was not allowed to go.

Christmas was very special this year......our family was complete. Last year our girls were missing from the family photo. Sam had told me that it was a good christmas because I had all of my children with me.....bless his little heart. To all of our family and friends...may 2008 be a special year for all of us and thank you for your love and support....it really means the world to all of our family.
Happy New Year
Rod, Debbie, Taylor, Jesse, Kyle, Sam, Maya and Denaye.

Christmas this year was hectic and full of laughter and so much noise...it was just how I thought it was going to be. Santa arrived right on time and Sam was up by 6:00 a.m......I tried to hold him off, but he was so excited he was shaking!!! I had to wake the rest of the kids as Sam could just not stand it anymore. They had such a blast checking out what Santa had brought them. Denaye and Maya were a real treat to watch. Maya wanted a dollhouse and Santa did not disappoint her. They were a little overwhelmed at times by all of the gifts, but they really caught on quite quickly how it all worked. Now Maya yells at her siblings to stay away from her stuff....oh how things have changed ina short few months. We tried something new this year....I usually cook christmas dinner, but this year we joined some good friends at the Coast Terrace Inn for a Christmas brunch. It was lovely and the kids liked the buffet style and I liked that there was no mess to clean up. My mom, Jamie and Heather were with us on Christmas Day. It was a great day and we were all so tired that we went to be early that night.
Debbie

Happy New Year to all of our friends and family. We wish you a year of dreams come true. I will post all about our christmas after New Year's. There just hasn't been any time to put anything together. We have been blessed to have had family stay with us all through the holidays. It will seem really boring when everyone leaves.........once again Happy New and may 2008 be the best year yet!!!

God Bless
Debbie and gang!!!
